Polish car industry needs Ukrainians: our specialists are in demand in a neighboring country

The demand for Ukrainian workers in the automotive industry is growing. Unfortunately, workers need not the domestic automotive industry, but Polish. In this country, cars and buses of some well-known brands are assembled, as well as parts manufactured for them. To maintain and develop all this production, workers are needed, which in Poland is not enough. The number of vacancies is growing faster than the flow of labor migrants. According to the Polish statistical office, in the first quarter of this year there were 152 thousand vacancies in the country, which is 30% more than it was at the end of 2017. The most demanded were industrial workers, who were required for 27.7% of vacancies.

The reasons for this shortage of personnel are understandable. Being part of the European Union, Poles can freely get a job in countries with higher wages than in Poland. And they are actively using it. Today it is difficult to believe that in 2003, at the time of joining the EU, Polish unemployment exceeded the 20% mark. Therefore, as soon as the labor markets of Great Britain, Germany, and other European countries began to open, many "extra people" from Poland went to work. Many of them have settled abroad. For example, the Polish diaspora in Britain eventually became the most numerous, overtaking the Pakistani one.

Now the times have changed, Poland is actively developing, but it has to look for personnel for this development abroad. The main supplier of workers in the Republic of Poland in recent years has become Ukraine. Strangely enough, but thanks to our crisis, the Poles have a source of relatively cheap labor resources.

On the main directions of seasonal labor migration from Ukraine

It has become a tradition of recent times that several million citizens leave Ukraine in the summer. It would seem that in this amazing. Summer is a holiday season, and people during their holidays can go where they want, that's the reason for migration during the hot season. But, unfortunately, with regard to our country this statement is not entirely true. Millions of Ukrainians go abroad not for recreation, but quite the contrary. Summer is the hottest time for them. Necessity forces compatriots to harvest in many countries of Europe.

The most popular direction of labor migration remains Russia, where, according to the International Labor Organization, 43.3% of Ukrainian Zarobitschans keep their way. In second place is another mentally close neighbor - Poland. The popularity of these two countries is due to the lack of a language barrier and geographical proximity. And, of course, a much higher level of payment for even low-skilled labor. Namely, such work has to deal with the majority of Ukrainian zarobitschans. 43% of them do it in the field of construction and repair, 25% - in fields and farms, 10% - working in households or taking care of patients. But even for such work in Poland, you can get 18-23 thousand hryvnia equivalent, which is several times more than in the homeland.

With the introduction of visa-free travel, cases when our compatriots use this regime for illegal employment are not uncommon. For example, a person crosses the border with an invitation from a Polish employer, but in fact rushes to Germany or Italy, where they pay more. Such practices can have negative consequences for both individual citizens, who use it, and for our country as a whole. After all, the agreement on visa-free travel has a mechanism for suspending it in case of mass abuses.
